The milestone was marked with a celebration and signing ceremony in Prague on June 25th, 2007, which was also attended by Park Air Systems, Era’s partner on this project. Era’s MSS surveillance system will provide surface and approach monitoring around Beijing using its fully integrated ADS-B and multilateration technology, enabling safer movement around the runways, while also delivering high precision coverage of the approach to the parallel runways. Era’s Precision Runway Monitoring (PRM) system is believed to be the first time outside of trials that wide area multilateration technology will be commissioned for parallel runway monitoring. Previously, only specially designed electronically scanned radar has been deemed acceptable for operational use in guiding aircraft on approach to parallel runways. Finally, comprehensive integrated support for ADS-B means that this system will be the first and the most substantial platform for assessing the various ways that ADS-B can be introduced into the Chinese surveillance scene. Beijing Capital International Airport has seen tremendous growth over the past several years, taking the leading spot worldwide for passenger growth in 2005. This growth is only expected to rise as Beijing gets ready to host the 2008 Summer Olympics. Thus, airport officials looked for an accurate, reliable and proven surveillance solution that could be deployed in time for the upcoming Olympics. “The CAA of China selected Era for Beijing not only because we have the best technology, but also because of the trust Era’s customers place in our delivery services - we have an unmatched record of delivering our solutions on-time and on-budget,” said Russell Hulstrom, VP Global Sales and Channels at Era. “With several more acceptance tests planned in the coming months, Era is positioned to deliver more multilateration solutions to more countries this year than all of our competitors combined.” |
