Alexandria, VA – April 20, 2007 – Era Corporation announced today that Latvijas Gaisa Satiksme (LGS) has selected Era to provide a wide area multilateration solution for Riga International Airport.  Era’s solution utilizes its industry-renowned MSS sensors, which will be strategically placed to provide optimal surveillance coverage.

The selection of Era marks the second time that an Era solution will be used for Riga International Airport.  In 2005, the airport selected Era to provide ground surveillance, as well as vehicle tracking, for the airport surface.

Riga International Airport, one of Europe’s fastest growing airports, is the largest airport in the Baltic states.  In 2004, Riga International Airport increased its passenger growth from 2003 by 49% and an additional 77% in 2005.  Riga’s continued growth and success presented a challenge for airport officials, as they worked to stay ahead of passenger growth, focusing on airport developments and modernization plans.

The latest solution will extend Era’s surveillance from the airport surface to the wide area.  Era’s solution will provide surveillance out to a distance of at least 80 nautical miles from the Riga International Airport.  Era’s multilateration provides higher accuracy, greater update rates, better coverage and improved reliability when compared to conventional radar, and will do so at a much lower initial cost and with lower annual maintenance costs.

“We are proud that the LGS has selected Era to deploy a second MSS multilateration system at the Riga International Airport,” said Russell Hulstrom, Era's VP of Worldwide Sales.  “This project is especially gratifying, as it shows how our customers can flexibly extend the MSS system and leverage the existing infrastructure and investment.”
